"Cai!" He raised his voice but he didn't enunciate the 'T' so it wasn't an emergency, probably.

Yet... he was still tossing about pillows and checking under things. He even went as far as picking up Enca's stuffed munna plush; shaking it like it was alive.

She fused at him with agitated wriggling and he only just barely managed to give it back before she started crying.

With every failed experiment of, whatever he was doing, he was growing more frustrated. As he stormed about, the tiny patch of scalp where white strands of hair now grew from (courtesy of his Aqua2 incident) was easy to see. "Cai?!"

he'd discover his wife-to-be sitting cross-legged upon the living room floor. freshly washed baby clothes, cloth diapers, towels and their own clothing were resting in a large laundry basket at her side. she had only just begun when he had made his presence known, cait's slightly bemused gaze raising to peer at her male counterpart.

"something wrong, baby?"

cait paused briefly, her senses seeking to detect any amount of whimpering that could have originated from enca or primrose. blessed silence and the occasional coo was heard, which caused her to relax somewhat.

'they just ate. and i changed them half an hour ago. so they should be fine.'

she continued to fold the laundry, returning to her chores without missing a beat.

"i know that tone. did you lose something again?"

"Have you seen Gan?" He lowered his tone once she responded, demonstrating he wasn't a complete lunatic.

His pacing about the Cabin still quick paced and with purpose.

It was very much a problem for the old Ditto to be out and wandering on its own during the breeding season.

His own frustration found in the fact that he'd taken to using the pokémon like a comfort-pillow not unlike he'd done as a boy.

Sleeping was easier with the Ditto nearby, lest his mind wander back to the sea world and what happened there.

ditto were forest creatures, so she wouldn't be surprised if the pink and sentient blob had gone beyond the four walls of their home. and cait had been far too preoccupied with busywork to notice the pokemon's presence; naturally prioritizing her chores above all else.

"actually there was something i needed to talk to you about."

the woman's tone was worryingly flat as she continued to tend to their laundry, her hands lovingly ensuring that her husband-to-be's wardrobe was properly folded.

"regarding your... work," she continued.

finally she raised her gaze, her eyes only slightly narrowed and her features lightly pinched.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, grab a growlithe by its toe.

He couldn't say a serious talk about his work didn't make him feel cagey while his 2nd oldest and 1st horniest pokémon was on the loose, cause it did.

"Hnnnn." On the inside his disposition would have made him squint at her in apprehension of whatever they were about to get into.

He treaded the water lightly keeping his apprehension and his facial contortions to himself so that Cait might speak her peace.

He didn't ask her to start, he merely stopped what he was doing and gave her his full attention.

"you're a father now," she said. "and it's important you're around to see the girls grow up. that means not taking any unnecessary risks."

she was vaguely aware of what he was up to. and what little she knew put her on edge.

"i wish you'd take a comfortable office job. you served long enough on the field to qualify for that position. and i'm sure it pays just as well."

cait paused briefly, a hint of a frown forming.

"but i know you wouldn't be happy if you were stuck in anything involving a cubicle. i just want you to promise me you'll be careful."

He opened his mouth for a second but nothing came out.

That's how it was to be checkmated before you had a strategy in place. Sénon was more of a contingency kind of guy. Knowing him as well she as did now, that was probably what had her so keen to express her concerns.

". . . ." He rubbed at the spot which housed the once-wound that made him comatose for a weeks of their pregnancy.

He closed his eyes and had a seat on the couch to give her words their due.

The fact that wasn't saying anything meant at the least he was processing her words with a deeper empathy for his family than he already had.

In the silence he pondered if she truly knew just how deep he was into the unnecessary risks.

Even if she could see the bulbs and the buds, he'd been keeping the roots from her for sometime now.

her love for senon burned with an intensity he could scarcely comprehend. cait would do whatever was necessary to keep him safe - to keep him at her side so that he could inevitably grow old and gray. he was far too young to needlessly throw his life away and she -

'i can't lose him. it's too soon.'

her expression tightened slightly, a hint of suspicion present within her strange gaze. she returned her attention toward his clothing, making sure his wardrobe was prepped for work.

"go find gan. last time you lost him i found him trying to fornicate with one of pyroar's girls."

the male feline had attempted to tear the transformed blob apart, partially driven mad with jealousy by his ability rivalry.

The awkward silence took up the space of an entire fifth person in the room. It walked in the moment she seemingly dropped the subject.

Try as he might to rationalize just coming clean, he couldn't let it out.

Luckily, Gan's libido provided him an escape rope to avoid this conversation and also time to begin working his way out of the enclosing walls or otherwise time to make peace said walls before they crushed him on all sides.

He was out the door with but a flicker of contemplation in his eyes and no matter how far he walked, he could feel her eyes at his back.

cait returned to her domestic chores without missing a beat, her steady gaze and precise movements thoroughly concealing that she was presently experiencing a whirl of emotions. his silence and hasty exit betrayed him - that or she was simply far too paranoid for her own good.

'he's hiding something,' she thought. 'he has to be.'

she wondered what that something could possibly be and what she'd have to do to unveil it.

"..."

cait gritted her teeth and abandoned her chores, ordering her gardevior to finish the task and take enca and primrose to bed for a nap. she would step outside once she was relieved of her duties, eyeing the land which surrounded her home with an analytical gaze.

he was happy here. wasn't he? he had a family, a home, land, wealth and pokemon in abundance. what more could a man possibly want?

and then she recalled the moment when he had almost fled to hoenn. she remembered the expression he had worn.

"... hm."

a small idea formed as she stared vacantly into the distance, one which involved potentially relying upon fernando's aid.
